A strong idea needs the right sounds around it. When the chords work but the drop still feels unfinished, build from a focused palette instead of starting another long preset search.
01
Give the idea a harmonic starting point.
Try a chord MIDI with your own piano or synth. Change the key, voicing and rhythm until it fits.
02
Build the hook and the foundation.
Audition a lead against the chords. Pair a kick with the bass, then add only the drum layers the groove needs.
03
Create contrast between sections.
Bring in a guitar texture or pad for the breakdown. Use booms, hits and whooshes to connect it to the drop.
INCLUDED / 50 CHORD MIDI FILES
Start with the chords.
Try a progression before filling an empty piano roll. Change the notes, key and timing, then play it through your own instrument.
Claps, snares, kicks, snaps, top loops and downlifters give you parts to audition around your main idea. Import the WAV files into a compatible DAW or sampler.
